Sounding Right Is Not the Same as Being Right

The question is not how much work AI can do. It is how you make the output reliable enough to use.

AI can produce a polished technical accounting memo in minutes. The mistakes in that memo are harder to catch than a staff accountant's, because nothing about the output looks wrong. A staff accountant tells you when they are unsure. The model does not.

Routing everything to human review creates a new bottleneck, and it moves the work to your most expensive person. Deterministic gates work better. Code checks the output against rules you set and stops the work when a check fails, instead of asking the model to be careful.

John and Kyle walk through two AI workflows we run in our own firm, point out where each one breaks, and show the checks that catch it.

John and Kyle are CPAs who built the schedules, cleaned up the GLs, and sat through the audits. Now they build the AI workflows their own firm runs on. Danielle runs the session and the Q&A.

What You'll Walk Away With

This is a look at real workflows, not a survey of tools. We will cover:

  • Why confident, well-formatted AI output is harder to catch than a staff accountant's mistakes
  • Why a human in the loop is usually a handoff, not a control
  • Before you ever see AI output, you will get the same answer every time, and every number traces back to the transaction behind it
  • What a deterministic gate is, and why it lives in code instead of in a prompt
  • Two AI workflows we run inside our own firm, walked through end to end
  • Where AI workflows break, and the checkpoints that stop bad output from moving forward

You will leave able to tell a real control from a review step that only looks like one, whether you own the close, answer to the auditors, or run the firm.
